Panther Creek Grad Earns College Scholarship
Cary, NC – Every year a limited number of high school students earn scholarships to go and pursue higher education and one of those hard-workers is Angela Duncan from Panther Creek High School.
Long List of Accomplishments
Duncan is the recipient of a four-year scholarship from the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services. She was born in Illinois and moved to Apex in 2000.
In addition to a 3.82 GPA, Duncan participated in a number of extracurricular activities, including marching band, school theater, color and winter guard and received the Coaches Choice Award and Work Horse Award in swimming while also earning a varsity letter. Duncan also volunteered at the Ship of Zion food pantry, Abbington Swim Team, Richard B. Harrison Community Library and her neighborhood food drive.
“I’ve always loved to do a lot of different things,” Duncan said. “I’ve had a hard time only working on one thing at a time.”
Future Studies
Duncan will be majoring in International Studies at UNC-Greensboro this Autumn.
“I love to travel and learn about different cultures,” Duncan said. “I thought it would be a good way to travel and meet new people and learn about the world.”
While Duncan did not make it there in person, she and 52 other scholarship recipients were honored at a reception at the Alhambra Palace in Chicago on Friday, July 22, 2016.
“It is a great honor to recognize these scholars for their character, extracurricular activities and academic achievements,” said Tiffany Gholson, Associate Deputy Director in the Office of Education and Transition Services. “I encourage all of our youth to plan for their future, develop unique dreams and talents and choose to be lifelong learners.”
Anyone the Illinois DCFS was responsible for at any point are eligible for the scholarship.
