Weekend Events: Back To School for Kids, Fun for Parents
Cary, NC – This weekend promises a lot of fun so make sure to check out our calendar for things to do around Cary. But here are just a few of the many activities and events this weekend.
Thursday, August 18, 2016
It’s Ladies Night at Parkside Town Commons. From 6 to 9 PM, there are open houses, special deals, finger foods and more.
The Chatham Street Wine Market is holding a free wine tasting at its store. These are special wines from Spain that will be curated and guided by one of the experts from Aveníu Brands. Also there will be food from Brachi – Le Petit Roll, all starting at 5 PM.
The Princess Talks is a new comedy put on by the Town of Cary and the Triangle Actors Comedy Lab. Come see famous “princesses” such as the Little Mermaid, Cinderella and more talk about their lives and struggles in a way that’s been updated for a modern audience. The show runs from Thursday to Saturday at 8 PM and Sunday at 3 PM, all at the Cary Arts Center.

There are multiple artist exhibitions this Friday. The Carolina Mixed Media Art Guild, Peter Marin and Sonia Kane will all be at the Page-Walker center for a reception as their art is displayed. It starts at 6 PM.
Wine Away Friday is an event with live music and wine tasting at Chatham Hill Winery. It goes from 7 to 10 PM and lets people sit outside under the stars if they want.
If you want to start the weekend by unwinding with some movies, there are many options. Chef will be screening at Koka Booth Amphitheater at 7 PM and both Kiss Me Deadly and Hunt for the Wilderpeople are screening at the Cary Theater at 7 PM and 9 PM respectively.

Acoustic Nights in the District is a chance to hear some free, live acoustic music out on the lawn at Park West Village in front of the Stone Theater. On Friday, August 19, you can hear Garland Mason perform and on Saturday, August 20, you can hear Denver Nixon. The shows start at 6 PM.
The Carolina RailHawks take on the Indy Eleven at WakeMed Soccer Park. Indy Eleven are currently the top ranked team in the NASL but the RailHawks’ newest players have been on fire lately so this should be a good match-up. The game starts at 7:30 PM.
The Honeycutters are playing at The Cary Theater, presented by Six String. Come out and hear the beloved folk band, starting at 8 PM.

Twisted Scissors on NC-55 is holding a special “Cut-A-Thon.” Anyone who gets a haircut there will have their proceeds go to Bob’s Buddies, a pediatric brain tumor charity. Get a back to school hair cut there from 9 AM to 5 PM. Also, Bob and the Showgram will be there from noon to 2 PM.
With the Olympics almost over, you can watch the film Munich at the Cary Theater, about the high-stakes murders and hostages at the 1972 Olympics. The film starts at 2 PM.

Around The Triangle
Kids will love A Night at the City of Raleigh Museum, where a mystery will require young detective go travel through Raleigh history to solve the crime. Parents may tag along or get something to eat for free across the street. The game starts at 5, 6:30 and 8 PM on Friday, August 19 at the City of Raleigh Museum on Fayetteville Street.
Natural Selections is a special occasion to learn with a cold beer in your hand as local breweries hold a tasting at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences from 7 to 10 PM on Friday, August 19.
The North Carolina Gay and Lesbian Film Festival is all this weekend at the Carolina Theatre in Durham. Come see shorts, features and documentaries about the lives of LGBTQ people in the state, including one documentary about a transgender man and his struggles due to HB2.
