Weekend Events: Local Music, Local Food and Local Fun

Cary, NC – This upcoming weekend is going to be especially fun for many of us because it’s Labor Day Weekend and there is an extra day of relaxation. So to supplement your weekend, here are all the events going on.

Thursday, September 1, 2016

The Herbert C. Young Community Center is celebrating its 25th year with an event to thank its customers, AKA, the residents of Cary. There will be free refreshments and other activities to commemorate the community center’s anniversary. The center opens at 11 AM and there will also be a Zumba class at the community center at 7:15 PM.

Live at Lunch starts up in Downtown Cary starting this Thursday. Head to the Fidelity Plaza at the intersection of Academy and Chatham Street at 11:30 AM to hear local musicians play a free concert that will repeat every Thursday until October.

There are lots of movies at the Cary Theater this weekend. On Thursday, it is your final chances to see either the documentary on the famous television producer, Norman Lear: Just Another Version of You at 2 PM and the film about the legendary editor Maxwell Perkins in Genius at 9 PM. Also starting on Thursday is The Tenth Man about a man who feels isolated from his hometown culture until he returns.

Friday, September 2, 2016

Yoga and Arts for Families returns to the Cary Visual Arts center. Starting at 9:30 AM, it’s for all ages and it is inside the Cary Theater.

Acoustic Nights in the District is this Friday and Saturday at the Stone Theater’s lawn in the Park West Village shopping center. It’s free music starting at 6 PM, with Tony Barnes on Friday and Christina Marks on Saturday.

Wine Away Friday is every Friday at 7 PM at Chatham Hill Winery. Listen to live music and enjoy wine either through tastings or getting a glass and sit inside or out under the stars.

There are two Farmer’s Markets this Saturday morning around Cary. You can check out the Cary Downtown Market on the lawn of the Ivey Ellington House near Ashworth Village and the Western Wake Market at 101 Gathering Park Circle, both starting at 8 AM.

Live Music at CineBowl is live bands and DJs at the CineBowl in Parkside Town Commons. It goes from 6 to 11 PM and you can also go bowling, see a movie or get food and drinks while you are there.

The Carolina RailHawks take on the Jacksonville Armada FC this weekend at a home game at WakeMed Soccer Park. The game starts at 7:30 PM. The RailHawks have been on fire lately so this will be exciting.

Triathalon

The Plunge Pedal Plod Triathlon is a race organized by Fit and Able. It starts at the Triangle Aquatic Center at 7 AM. Register in advance.

Sufragette is playing at the Cary Theater at 2 PM. It’s the story of the political movement for women’s voting rights in Great Britain.

Cirque Italia is a unique “water circus” that is in town in Raleigh’s Villa Latina Plaza on Olympia Drive. It runs all this weekend:

Friday Night Tributes is this Friday, September 2 at 7 PM in Raleigh’s Midtown Park. Hear musicians play free music in a tribute to the late Bob Marley.

Bull City Rumble is a vintage motorcycle and scooter show on West Main Street in Durham. All day Saturday, come out to check out these old vehicles in an event hosted by Ton Up NC.
