Weekend Events: Holiday Music, Markets and More
Cary, NC – As we get nearer to the end of the year, the weekend fills up with more festivities. So here is a quick guide to help you map out your weekend plans.

The Cary Gallery of Artists is holding their holiday open house event at their gallery on South Academy Street, with handmade ornaments, decorations and more for sale, with doors opening at 5:30 PM.
Elks’ Hoop Shoot is a free-throw contest sponsored by the Raleigh Elks Lodge for anyone aged 8-13, with a chance to move on to a national championship. The contest starts at 6:30 PM, with pre-registration closing at 5 PM the same day at the Bond Park Community Center.
The Cary Theater continues the month with Christmas movies. Start off the weekend with Love The Coopers at 7 PM and The Family Stone at 9:30 PM.

Local photographer Bobby Nicks is holding a reception for his photography exhibit “Nature As My Camera Sees It.” Nicks’ photographer features animals and landscapes around Cary and starts at 6 PM at Bond Park Community Center. The gallery will be open in the community center until Saturday, December 31, 2016.
Arbolito de la Esperanza is a tree lighting ceremony, co-sponsored by Diamante and the Town of Cary, at 6:30 PM to kick off the Estrella de la Esperanza campaign, which collects food, toys and money for families in need. There will also be local musicians performing at the event at Herb Young Community Center.
Jonathan Byrd and the Pickup Cowboy are performing at the Cary Theater. Byrd is a North Carolina native and has won awards and accolades for his acoustic, folk style. The show, presented by Six String, takes place at 8 PM.

Breakfast with Mrs. Claus is an crafts workshop at Garden Supply Co. where Mrs. Claus will also be there. There will be breakfast and a short story read by Mrs. Claus, all starting at 9 AM. Register in advance.
Cary’s International Ballet Academy is performing the Christmas classic “The Nutcracker” at Cary Academy. There are two times for the performance, at 2 and 7 PM.
The Triangle Wind Ensemble is playing a variety of holiday music, from the scores to classic Christmas movies to carols and more. The show starts at 7:30 PM at the Cary Arts Center.

The final Downtown Food and Flea is this Sunday in Ashworth Village, with arts and crafts made by local creators, as well as food trucks and beer and wine vendors. It starts at noon.
Holiday Pops is a performance at the Cary Arts Center where the 90-voice Concert Singers of Cary will perform with the Moonlight Orchestra to sing popular holiday songs, starting at 3 PM.
The Page-Walker Center will host the Cary Children’s Concert Choir and Cary Youth Chorale as they perform well-known holiday music.

Around The Triangle
A Triangle classic, A Christmas Carol performed by Ira David Wood III is starting this week, running until Sunday. Presented by Theater in the Park, it takes place in Raleigh’s memorial auditorium with times differing between each day.
The Governor’s Mansion is having its holiday open house with the Executive Mansion open from Thursday to Sunday. You can take tours to learn about the history of the downtown Raleigh building and hear local musicians. Times vary based on the day.
Durham’s Holiday Parade takes place on Main Street on Saturday, December 10, 2016. Come out to see high schools, local bands, dancers, community groups and more fill up the street, starting at 10 AM.
