Cary’s First Lidl Preparing for Construction

Cary, NC – One of Cary’s planned Lidl grocery stores canceled last year following a candid interview by the company’s then-CEO, but construction is gearing up now on the town’s first of the German grocery chain.

Lidl, a grocery chain known for stocking German and European foods and goods, is building its first store in Cary at 1110 N Harrison Ave. Plan review documents on the Town of Cary’s website say this will be a one-story, 29,000 square foot grocery store.

Trees are currently cleared on the site while the submittal project is still under review.

This Lidl also sits near several other grocery stores in Central Cary, with a Walmart Neighborhood Market, a Harris Teeter and an Aldi all in the same intersection, with more grocery stories farther out.

Last Summer, Lidl announced they were canceling the plans to build a Lidl in western Cary on NC-55. Real estate group Leon Capital Group is in litigation with Lidl over this canceled plan, as well as plans for stores across North Carolina.

Earlier in 2018, the Schwarz Group’s then-CEO Klaus Gehrig said the company’s American expansion was a “singular catastrophe” and criticized the store’s locations, sizes and predictions of American food tastes in an interview with German magazine Manager Magazin. The Schwarz Group is the company that owns Lidl.

Love Aldi, but what we need in Cary is a SPROUTS. oh my gosh!! perfect grocery store. I have stumbled on it near Southpointe Mall. I SO WISH our Kroger on Hwy 64 was not another HT but a SPROUTS>

So happy to hear! I’ve enjoyed the bakery at the Sandford Lidl, not spectacular, but good. Looking forward to this option in Cary!
