Coming to Cary: Death Cab for Cutie

Cary, N.C. – Another new show has been scheduled for Booth Amphitheatre this summer: Death Cab for Cutie.

Death Cab for Cutie at Booth

The pattern seems to be that acts are booking the venues later and later this year. Witness the last-minute show by Prince recently compared to the multi-month hoopla when U2 visited.

In any event, it’s good news to see a contemporary band of Death Cab’s stature coming to KBA. The show is scheduled for Monday August 8, 2011.

Death Cab For Cutie (the name comes from a pulp fiction title) had it’s start in 1998 but achieved commercial succcess in 2005 with the release of mega-hits Soul Meets Body and Crooked Teeth.

It’s singer-songwriter stuff, but with a smart. eclectic band. The music is tuneful for rock and roll, with interesting harmonies and instrumentation. Death Cab’s songs tell a story. Yet, somehow, it all remains pretty simple. To my ear, I hear a musical relationship to The Decemberists.

If that didn’t tell you everything you need to know, just listen to the clip:

Death Cab has a new album coming out in May, so this tour is sure to be promoting new material. Browse more Death Cab for Cutie material on YouTube.
