Cary Parks #8: Urban Park

Part 8 in our Cary Parks series.

Cary, NC – Nestled on a thin strip of land on the eastern edge of downtown Cary, Urban Park provides visitors a sample of what makes Cary parks great. This aptly named park has lush landscaping, shaded seating, and enough playground equipment to keep both younger and older kids busy.

Description

The main attraction at Urban Park is the rubber padded playground located in the middle of the park. Two play structures, complete with slides, monkey bars, and a small rock climbing area, provide ample space for multiple children to play. A small sandbox is nearby along with two sets of swings, including two bucket swings for younger children.

Parents can rest on one of the several benches scattered around the playground and easily keep an eye on their children regardless of where they are playing. Keep an eye on younger children though, as both sides of the park are closely bounded by streets which a wandering toddler could easily venture into unintentionally.

Basketball

At the south end of Urban Park lies a partially fenced basketball court. A water fountain is available court-side, along with benches for spectators. There is convenient parking next to the court as well partial shade, making this an ideal spot to shoot hoops.

Lying at the opposite end of the park is a natural area with tables perfect for picnics. Restrooms do not make an appearance at Urban Park, so plan your visit accordingly.

Location Downtown

Despite the central location near downtown, many visitors may have trouble finding the park for the first time; the Chatham Street side of the park is a mere 100 feet long. However, the Town has provided excellent signage to help visitors locate the entrance.

Note that W Circle Dr and E Circle drive, the two streets that run the length of the park, are one way streets. Parking is located in several spots on either side of the park, either via parallel or pull-in spaces. Bikers can secure their rides on the small rack located next to the basketball court.

Urban Park’s location and amenities make it a wonderful place for play dates, pick-up ball, and picnics. This centrally located park provides enough so that any guest can find something fun to do. Take some time during your next trip downtown to stop in and pay this charming park a visit.
