Truck Day in Cary Raises Money for Charity

Cary, NC – Bright Horizons is a preschool program with a mission to share. They are hosting their first annual Touch A Truck Day this Saturday, November 17 at their Weston Parkway location to raise funds to help other children experience the love of learning that the children here in Cary have every day.
Touch a Truck—Help a Child! will be a fun-filled day for your family that can also make a difference in the lives of children in need. The event will feature a wide range of trucks and vehicles for kids and adults of all ages to explore.
Who Thought Up Truck Day?
I asked Lori Bodenhamer, Regional Manager for Bright Horizons, ” Who came up with the idea for Truck Day?”.
She told me that similar events are held around the country. She said,”We first got involved with the idea when a Bright Horizons employee in Boston Massachusetts created a Truck Day with some of her friends as a way to raise funds for charity and to bring a fun hands-on event for their children and friends.”
Since then, Bright Horizons groups across the country have hosted Truck Days from California to Colorado, Boston, and Florida and now in here in the Triangle.
What Kid Doesn’t Love a Truck?
The trucks are coming from Rocky Mount, Raleigh, Cary and Durham. Vehicles include a Fire Truck, Police Car, National Guard Humvee, Military Vehicle, Red Wings Bull Team, Abramm’s Food Truck, 4X4 Monster Truck, Fed Ex Truck, Brazer Homes Smart Car, Alivescapes Dump Truck and Dingo, HD Motorcycle and a classic cars.
Other activities will include children’s musician Uncle John, Kona Ice, a Monster Truck Moon Bounce, Face painting and children’s activities related to transportation.
Money Goes To Support Children In Crisis
The Bright Horizons Schools support a children’s organization called program called Bright Horizons Foundation for Children. The groups marquee program is Bright Spaces. This agency works to help children who are in crisis, many are homeless, or victims of domestic violence or neglect. All proceeds from the Truck Day event will go to support this outreach program.
As we all know, children succeed when they are given exposure to early education, books, music, and developmentally appropriate toys and games. But many kids in crisis may lack language and cognitive skills which can have lifelong effects on learning and ultimately in their success in the world.
The organization brings the space to where these children are, building engaging activity centers in existing homeless shelters, crisis or community centers. They aim to build bright special spaces where families can relax and learn together. The Bright Horizons group has set up 7 Bright Spaces in the North Carolina/South Carolina area. Nationally, 268 Bright Spaces bring play to over 11,000 homeless children every month. Here’s a list.
