Cary, NC – Cary’s first Open Data Day is coming this weekend. Final plans are coming together and here’s a run-down of what will be happening.

Workshops and Hack-a-thon

Cary’s celebration of worldwide Open Data Day is taking place at the Cary Chamber this Saturday, February 23, 2013. Almost 100 people have signed up including developers, data analysts, writers, designers and government officials. In fact, there’s a waiting list (see below).

The day-long event will have two tracks – workshops and a general hackfest.

First, about the hacking: Town of Cary has extracted some public data sets specifically for the event:

  • Town of Cary Crime – List of all crime incidents reported in the Town of Cary since 2001.
  • Single Family Residential Building Permits – List of all single family residential building permits issued by the Town of Cary Since 2001.
  • Residential Certificates of Occupancy – List of all Certificates of Occupancy issued by the Town of Cary since 2000.
  • Town of Cary Park Information – A list of Town of Cary parks and feature.
  • Town of Cary PRCR Facility Information – Information about Town of Cary Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources facilities.
  • Town of Cary Greenways

Participants in Open Data Day will break into informal groups and build web pages, apps or otherwise extract this data for use in other places. That’s the hacking part.
