Pictures: HerbFest 2013
Story and photos by Hal Goodtree.
Cary, NC – The cool, damp weather that has settled on Cary this Spring continued for Herbfest 2013. But the chilly wind did not dampen spirits at Page-Walker for the most successful and interesting celebration of culinary gardening yet.
HerbFest 2013
For 2013, HerbFest, presented by Friends of Page-Walker, had many more specialty herb growers than in previous years. There were still booths with pottery, birdhouses and other garden accoutrements, but the variety of herbs for sale was impressive – Orange Mint, Chervil, Wormwood, half a dozen types of basil. Lots of good stuff for the NC gardener.
Also impressive was the appearance of Brent Miller, President of the Friends, as the Butterfly Lady. The original Butterfly Lady had to cancel, so Brent donned the straw hat. After a brief discussion of butterflies in front of Frank Page’s old smokehouse, Brent released a box of butterflies to the delight of children and adults.

Great photos Hal – especially love the kids faces at the butterfly release!! Thanks to you and Lindsey for braving the cool weather glad you enjoyed Herbfest. As the sun came out so did the crowds.
Thanks Kris! We had a great time. Awesome selection.
Unofficial Proofreader Alert: Brent was “promoted” to President of the Friends of the Page-Walker to fill past president Ed Yerha’s remaining term when Ed had to give up his Friends post to devote more time to his new duties as a Cary Town Council member following his appointment to that post.
That can’t be true, proofreader. FOPW website lists B. Miller as VP.
Apparently the Friends of the Page-Walker need an unofficial proofreader for our web site! Thanks for pointing out that the information about our board of directors on the web site was (ahem) a bit dusty. It’s been dusted off and now reflects our brand-new board who will begin (or continue) serving next month.
The butterfly lady looks slightly different this year. New haircut perhaps?
