Yankovic Day | Yankovic Day is a free concert designed to bring polka fans together to hear the music of the late Frankie Yankovic. 2013 will be the 19th annual concert performed by the Polka Plus Band. Downtown Performance Green, located on the corner of Kildaire Farm Road and Academy Street (across from the Cary Arts Center).  7 PM, free.

Movies By Moonlight – Gravity | Space thriller starring Sandra Bullock and George Clooney, Gravity won 7 Oscars including Best Director and Best Cinematography. See it for $3 under the stars.

Farmers Markets | You know you’re going to be grilling and chilling this weekend, Hit the farmers markets Downtown, at Waverly Place or Western Wake and pick up something nice.

NC Symphony Summerfest Opening Night – Beethoven’s 5th | Did you know the North Carolina Symphony makes its summer home at Koka Booth Amphitheatre in Cary? Of course you did. Saturday is opening night, featuring a performance of music’s best loved work, Beethoven’s 5th Symphony.

Triangle Wind Ensemble – An American Celebration | The seventh annual family-friendly American Celebration  honors America’s own musical art form – Jazz – and salutes our veterans with patriotic favorites. You’ll hear the likes of Duke Ellington, Glenn Miller, swing tunes and vocals backed by the Triangle Wind Ensemble “big band.” Featured soloist is the Triangle’s own nationally-known jazz trumpeter, Jim Ketch.

Memorial Day Service – Hillcrest Cemetary | 10 – 11 AM. This free community event is sponsored by Post 67 Cary, NC American Legion, featuring local dignitaries, Boy Scouts, and patriotic music. Bring lawn chairs. For more information email carylegion67@aol.com or call 919-481-4811.

Hitchcock Weekend

New art house movie theater The Cary is pulling out the big guns with an all Hitchcock weekend. Thrill to The Birds, Rear Window, Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Vertigo, North By Northwest, Stage Fright and Dial M for Murder. See a classic on the big screen for just $5. Full schedule.

Hit the Beach or the Lake

The weather looks to be mostly sunny this weekend with a small chance of thunder showers Friday night. Temps in the 70’s and 80’s.

As previously described, Wrightsville Beach is an easy day-trip from Cary. Read Day-Tripping to the Beach. Water temperature is 72°F according to Surf-Forecast.com. Don’t forget to stop at Boombalati’s for ice cream on the way home.

Jordan Lake is right next door. Sandy beaches are offered to day visitors at Ebenezer Church, Seaforth, Parker’s Creek and White Oak Recreation Areas. More info: Jordan Lake.
