Cary, NC — This weekend in Cary, don’t miss the Three Kings Day Parade, sledding at Bond Park, the Billy Jonas Band, and more. It’s all on the calendar.

It’s a new year and a great time to get more involved in Cary. Folks living or doing business downtown can become members of the Heart of Cary Association. They meet at 7:30 am at the Matthews House on the first Thursday of every month.

The Green Hope High School dance department will present their winter concert at 7 pm on Thursday evening in the school auditorium. Admission is $5.

Cary’s annual Winter Wonderland at Bond Park will start at 3:30 on Friday afternoon and last until 9 pm. The event repeats from 9 am-9 pm on Saturday. After pre-registering, attendees can go sledding on a slope of snow created by Snow My Yard. See the Town of Cary website for more information or to register for $18 a person.

The Annandale Center, a Scottish dance studio near the Cary Arts Center, hosts a free dance on the second Friday of each month. The event starts at 4 and concludes at 7 pm.

Also on Friday evening, Wine & Design is hosting an Open Paint Night at their Cary location on James Jackson Avenue from 6:30-9:30 pm. Canvases, brushes, paints, aprons, and music are all provided for a $30 fee.

Lastly, remember that Owl Tree Theater is presenting Sorrow’s End at the Cary Arts Center from 7-9:30 pm. This play, in town for two weekends, repeats at the same time on Saturday evening and at 3 pm on Sunday. Tickets, sold at the door, are $10 for the show and $18 for the show and a pre-show reception.

Cary’s Three Kings Day Parade will take place in Downtown Cary from 1-4 pm on Saturday. This exciting event, which will feature costumes, folkloric groups, nonprofits, and small businesses is free to the community.

Don’t miss two great “funky folk” concerts, also on Saturday. The Billy Jonas Band will present a family show at 3 pm and a show for general audiences at 8 pm, both at The Cary Theater. Tickets are available online.

The Cary Invasion basketball team will take on Durham at 7 pm at the Herb Young Community Center. Gates open at 6 and tickets are $10.

Across the Triangle

Teens interested in science shouldn’t miss Teen Science: Open Minds Cafe at the Morehead Planetarium in Chapel Hill on Friday from 5:30-8 pm. This free event, complete with food and fun, gives attendees a chance to learn about current research, talk with scientists, and meet others who share their interest.

The NC Symphony presents Rhapsody in Blue, a concert featuring many artists, this weekend on Friday and Saturday at the Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts. Tickets, which range from $18-$65, are available in advance.

Performances of Wicked, the hit Broadway musical, start at The Durham Performing Arts Center this week. Daily shows run from January 7, 2015-January 25, 2015, and tickets are available online. Even the later shows sell out fast, so make your reservations now.
