The Cary Scavenger Hunt: Team Building At Its Best

Cary, NC – CaryCitizen has created the Cary Scavenger Hunt for the last seven years and every year we are impressed and surprised by the ingenuity of our competitive teams. They work together and strategize to be the best during their quest to learn all about Cary, the town we all know and love.

When Is the Hunt?

The 7th annual Cary Scavenger Hunt will take place on Saturday, September 17, 2016 and begins and ends at Cary’s Page-Walker Arts & History Center. This is a rain or shine event. In the event of rain, we move indoors to Cary’s Town Hall, which we have done for the three previous years (Thank you Town of Cary’s Public Works Department!).

What’s New in 2016?

The newest aspect of The Hunt (as we like to call it) is a phone app that we are preparing which will allow our teams to easily upload photos when they arrive at clue locations.

Made possible by our Technology Sponsors, Carolina Orthodontics and Children’s Dentistry and Triangle Family Dentistry, this app will be downloaded by teams in advance of the event and will load photos to our server where the celebrity judges will look up each clue to verify that our teams did visit each location.

How Do You Play?

To be a part of this fun event, you need to register a team of up to four people. Teams compete in three different categories and the top three finishers are awarded trophies and cash prizes ranging from $50 to $250 per team. The categories are:

  • Family Teams- folks that are related, someone is a parent
  • Adult Teams- four adults, where everyone is over 18 years old
  • Corporate Teams- representing a company where they are employed

Register here.

Teams will need to work together. Someone should be appointed the captain to register the team and receive periodic communications from the CaryCitizen Scavenger Hunt organizers. Pay attention to these emails – they may contain hints and ways to earn bonus points! In seven years we have learned that Cary residents are a competitive bunch: they play to win!

Another team member should be the designated driver, preferably a safe driver as we won’t be paying your speeding tickets should you get any.

One team member should have the Cary Scavenger Hunt app downloaded to their phone and be in charge of making sure all clue questions that require a team photo are uploaded using that phone. Call them the designated “Clue Capturer” or resident photographer or some other fun title.

Lastly, you need to strategize. We have noticed over the years that after receiving the clue books on the morning of The Hunt, many teams sit themselves down and spend at least fifteen minutes plotting and mapping and figuring out the clues so that they leave Page-Walker with a plan. We highly suggest this. It will increase your chances of visiting as many clues as possible.

With seventy clue locations, it is nearly impossible to visit each and every one, but you’d be surprised: we have had some teams accomplish that! A little strategy goes a long way.

What Do You Win?

Each team category will have first, second and third place awards. Each finisher wins a large engraved trophy filled with cash: $250 for first place, $100 for second and $50 for third. We also have random FREE raffle drawings at the finish. Anyone can go home a winner from the Cary Scavenger Hunt.

Get your team together and register now for Cary’s Biggest Adventure: The Cary Scavenger Hunt. Start following CaryCitizen on Facebook and Twitter as we begin dropping “cluebombs” and naming our sponsors. It could help you win!
