Harold’s Blog: Hometown Spirit Award, Cary Town Council Meeting and More

Cary, NC – This week was much busier than last week with intergovernmental meetings and events.

Monday – Mayors Association

Monday I contacted council members about any questions or concerns they may have had about Thursday’s upcoming agenda. The agenda was fairly straight forward so there were no questions. However, more than one council member expressed concerns about the number of apartment proposals we are getting. Later in the day I met with staff to go over the agenda. After the agenda meeting, I met with the town manager for my weekly one-on-one. We discussed several topics including the mall proposal and the potential community center that could go on the site.

Gale’s Blog: The Four Seasons

Cary, NC – The 2019 long session kicked off on a cold day in January. The majority’s budget was crafted in the warmth of spring and vetoed in the heat of summer. Fall’s beauty has taken a back seat to brief floor sessions with a paucity of votes, many ‘no vote’ sessions, a few hastily called committee meetings, stripped bills with titles that in no way reflect their contents, and several nonsensical recesses of varying lengths. Like a plane without tower clearance to land, the legislature remains in a holding pattern, waiting for Speaker Moore, Senator Berger and Governor Cooper to negotiate a compromise budget.

Harold’s Blog: Cary’s New Library, Cary Band Day and More

Cary, NC – This week was mostly ceremonial since several meetings were cancelled.

Monday – School Robotics

Monday I met with the First Lego League Robotics team about issues related to the environment. They created a plan and a model for Carpenter Park to include items like solar power, rain barrels for water, and trees to shade for play structures. It is so very encouraging to have youth at this age focusing on ideas that will make their community better. This type of engagement is what makes our community great. Thanks to the youth for visiting and sharing their ideas. They plan to meet with our Parks Director next.

Monday – Wake Mayors Meeting

Monday I attempted to contact council members about questions or concerns they may have had on the agenda for Thursday’s regularly scheduled agenda. Most of the comments were on the Davis Drive public hearing where council members expressed concern over lack of specificity. Later in the day I met with key staff members and the Mayor Pro-Tem to go over the agenda. At that time, we believed the meeting would be straight forward without many public comments. Read more

Samaritan’s Corner: The Embrace of Escape

Cary, NC – Welcome to Samaritan’s Corner. Let’s Talk!

Psalms 139:13-18 – “You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb. Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous, how well I know it. You watched me as I was being formed in utter seclusion, as I was woven together in the dark of the womb. You saw me before I was born. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed. How precious are your thoughts about me, O God. They cannot be numbered! I can’t even count them, they outnumber the grains of sand! And when I wake up, you are still with me!”

I absolutely love this beautiful scripture because it describes just how personal God is. It describes, in detail, just how into us He really is. Before a child can ever have a relationship with another human being, God establishes His relationship with that child. God’s heart for children is so personal that He gives that child the first of His very best.

I could go on and on about His love for children, but instead I’m going to switch gears and talk about the teachers at Davis Drive Elementary, that He has assigned to be His own personal hands. Just when I think I’m getting to the end of my time of driving a YMCA bus, the Lord allows me to witness something that makes me love driving that old number 66 all over again.
