There’s never a dull moment in Cary. January 3rd saw the first meeting of the Heart of Cary Association at The Matthews House. Ben Shivar, Cary Town Manager, reviewed where the Town has been in 2012 and where it’s going in 2013.
Saturday I had the honor and privilege of riding in the Cary Jaycees Christmas parade. I rode in a mini coupe driven by Steve Zaytoun. It was a blast and I threw out about three bags of candy to the kids.
Thursday morning the town contingent, our financial advisors, and the Citigroup members met in the Citigroup offices to discuss our strategy for our meetings with the bond rating agencies.
Monday I participated in a meeting of the Wake County Mayors Association. Eight of the twelve mayors were in attendance. Absent were the mayors of Apex, Morrisville, Knightdale, and Wendell.
One topic discussed was the legislation that now requires municipalities to pay for road improvements around schools. In addition, municipalities are not allowed consider the road’s level of service as part of their decision.
Monday started with my weekly town manager one-on-one meeting. We talked about a variety of topics including having an additional neighborhood meeting to hear concerns from the residents near the Penny Road Kildaire Farm Road gas station proposal. We also talked about an issue with some faulty town’s water meters in town. The cost and replacement of those meters will be covered by the manufacturer. The Green Level Church Road widening was also discussed. NCDOT would like to do the entire set of improvements rather than the ones they have planned. So we will probably enter this as a LAPP (locally administered project program) project. Other topics included the upcoming Cary/Morrisville joint meeting, an update Fenton development agreement process, the Glenaire rezoning proposal, and the approved gas station near Weldon Ridge School sites which is upsetting citizens.
