As we reviewed last month, your school board does not have taxing authority and must rely on state and county funding for the operating budget. The Superintendent’s budget request will be followed by the County Manager’s proposed budget. Meanwhile the Governor proposed his budget and the House released theirs. Read more
Cary, NC – Megan Langebeck, a teacher assistant at Cary’s Carpenter Elementary School, has been named Wake County’s teacher assistant of the year. Read more
Cary, NC – The school year is coming to an end but discussions about school policy are ongoing, and experts and elected officials talked about hot topics in education at a recent Cary Chamber of Commerce panel.
Cary, NC – LaunchCARY, a new program for developing entrepreneurs and small business owners in the community, graduated its first class this month, all in a partnership with Dorcas Ministries, Wake Technical Community College and Cary’s Rotary Clubs. Read more

The State Constitution expects the legislature to fund all school operations and the county to fund facilities.
School boards do not have taxing authority and thus are dependent on state and county funding decisions to run an effective and challenging academic program. Read more
Cary, NC – Cary High School has an extensive culinary education program, both for cooking and for restaurant management. This year, five students at Cary High School won first place in a statewide culinary competition and now move on to compete nationwide later this year. Read more
Cary, NC – The Supreme Court’s Brown v. Board of Education ruling came down in 1954 but it still took many more years for schools across North Carolina to integrate. As part of a presentation on the Page-Walker Arts and History Center, visitors got to learn about Cary’s crucial role in desegregating schools in the state and bringing students of all races together.
