The Town of Cary is going places – namely, back and forth between Charlotte and Raleigh. That’s because NC DOT locomotive number 1871 has been christened “Town of Cary” and will be put into service on that Amtrak route in the near future.
During discussion about branding, Council members said that Cary should communicate a broader definition of what Cary is; our brand is somewhat narrow now.
The historic George Upchurch farmhouse in Cary took a short trip last week. After standing at 6101 Collins Road (recently renamed Waldo Rood Boulevard) for more than 100 years, the house was moved across the road to a new site where it will be restored, offered for sale and assured of preservation.
The themes identified most often by the council’s survey feedback were to improve consistency, be more helpful and take ownership of issues. A spirited discussion ensued about applying these goals to the Town’s web site.
Town Staff traveled to Wilmington on Friday morning and joined the Council at 10:00 a.m. to launch into a discussion about Cary’s land use plan. Although “land use plan” might not sound like an exciting topic, it is perhaps the most important component of shaping Cary’s growth and hence, its overall future as a community.
