Lobster Fest Returns to Cary in October 2019

The first Saturday in October has come to mean only one thing to a church community in Cary and its growing legion of lobster-loving friends. For the 13th consecutive year, St Paul’s Episcopal Church at 221 Union St. is throwing its doors open for its annual Lobster Fest from 11 AM to 3 PM on Saturday, October 5, 2019.

It’s hummingbird season!  Are you ready to welcome these fascinating Summer guests?From April through September each year, Ruby Throated Hummingbirds (Archilochus colubris) take up residence in our area.  They are readily found in Cary and easy to attract to feeders and gardens.

What I Learned From the Great Backyard Bird Count

Did you count birds this month?  The Great Backyard Bird Count for 2019 is over, and it has been a wonderful experience for tens of thousands of bird enthusiasts around the world. I thoroughly enjoyed participating by spending six and a half total hours counting birds in four Cary locations during the weekend of February 15-18.

Help Local Science with the Great Backyard Bird Count

Each February, people around the world take part in one of the largest and most valuable “citizen science” projects: the Great Backyard Bird Count (GBBC). This year’s count, sponsored by Cornell Lab of Ornithology since 1998, takes place Friday, February 15 through Monday, February 18, 2019 and is expected to involve more than 200,000 bird lovers in over 100 countries.
