Cary, NC — PDQ, A new fast-casual restaurant, has opened in Cary. They serve tenders, salads and sandwiches with an interesting claim to fame: no freezers or microwaves.
The new PDQ in Cary is a very attractive and unique building, both inside and out, with bold colors and architecture. It’s located in the rapidly rising SearStone development at the corner of Davis and High House.
This is the third PDQ in the Triangle and the fourth in North Carolina. The restaurant chain started in Florida in 2011.
PDQ stands for “People Dedicated to Quality.” Nothing is frozen or microwaved. The tenders are hand-breaded, the salads hand-tossed. They serve chicken and turkey, no beef.
There’s also hand-turned milkshakes and fresh squeezed lemonade.
PDQ was rocking at lunchtime today. Big crowds swarmed in after Green Hope’s freshman orientation, but the large staff kept it moving with wait times for food virtually non-existent.
The fries were crisp, and salads, sandwiches and chicken tenders all received enthusiastic endorsement from my party of six (three kids, three adults).
PDQ’s location at the corner of Davis and High House brings the number of fast-casual chicken joints in the neighborhood to three – Chick Fil A at Stonecreek, and Bojangles and PDQ in Searstone.
And, if I am not mistaken, Rudino’s serves chicken, as does Doherty’s and Cafe Caturra.
That’s six places to get chicken on one corner.
From now on, we’ll have to call the intersection of Davis and High House “Chicken Corner.”

Cary, NC – Announcing Cary’s Great Pumpkin Chuck, scheduled for Sunday, November 3, 2013 at Bond Park.
Not familiar with a pumpkin chuck? It’s a competition where teams hurl pumpkins at targets and for distance with a homemade device called a trebuchet.
A trebuchet is like a catapult, except with a sling instead of a giant spoon.
Pumpkin chucks are also called punkin’ chuckin’ and punkin chunkin’. Don’t know why “chunking” except maybe alliteration.
Whatever you want to call it, Cary’s Great Pumpkin Chuck will happen the weekend after Halloween – Sunday, November 3, 2013. More info on CaryPumpkinChuck.com.
The venue is the Spillway in beautiful Bond Park. That’s the area between the Community Center and the lake – a hilly spot overlooking a big, flat field. It’s sometimes used for event and Spring Daze parking.
The Spillway is about 500 feet long. We’ll be using approximately 300 feet for the punkin’ chuckin’.
Cary’s Great Pumpkin Chuck is a co-production of Town of Cary and TechnologyTank.
Cary’s Punkin’ Chuck will also have a mini-Maker Fair. Booths to be announced, but expect science, technology and DIY exhibits.
If you’d like to be an exhibitor at the event, please email Ian Henshaw.
Teams are forming now! Cary’s Great Pumpkin Chuck is a fun, innovative experience for Scout troops, school clubs, families and hobbyists of all ages.

Cary, NC — Backyard chickens crossed the road to legality about a year ago in Cary after years of discussion and debate among citizens and Town Council members. Pro and anti-chicken “special interests”—as Mayor Weinbrecht called them—ruffled quite a few feathers as they lobbied for and against Cary residents’ right to keep hens for eggs and companionship.
