Monday I joined the entire council at the retirement of Police Chief Tony Godwin. He was one of the best chiefs that Cary has ever had and did a LOT of amazing things. As part of the ceremony I read a proclamation recognizing his service.
While the latest Cary Town Council meeting did not have a long agenda, Town Council and public speakers had a long discussion about stormwater and light pollution at a new planned parking lot, while also voting on a new town grant and rules regarding electric scooters that have grown in popularity.
It saddens me to know that our country and state is so divided. In Cary we have proven that party doesn’t matter. We believe that working toward a common goal is easier when all work together and there is no place for divisiveness. It is always OK to disagree but we must always work together on each and every decision. That is the only way we can possibly reach our potential as a community. Items talked about in my one-on-one discussions included the proposal for hotels on North Harrison and the Bainbridge proposal at Maynard and Chapel Hill Road.
Food fundraisers abound in Cary over the year, celebrating so many of our favorite comforts and delicacies. That list includes barbecue, fried chicken, fish, subs, and, yes, lobsters.
This week’s activities mostly consisted of the quarterly meeting and events. Monday I met with the town manager for about half an hour for our weekly one-on-one talk. Topics included the downtown library, downtown development, the North Harrison development, the upcoming quarterly meeting and other topics.
With the school year starting soon, local Caryites can help make sure local children get everything they need as Waltonwood Cary Parkway holds a donation drive for food and school supplies this week and next.
