Current talk in the Senate will limit the total spending increase to 2.5% with no raises identified for support staff and established teachers. Where will it end?
Can we afford to dismiss our responsibility to pay competitive salaries to teachers and staff just because the legislature chooses not to? This is a conversation that all Wake citizens should weigh in on. How would you answer the question?
Wake County provides transportation every day to more than 80,000 students. Current costs average at $800 per student on a yellow bus – or $2.22 per trip per student to and from school.
Your school district’s top priority is the safety of its students. The Snow Decision Team includes senior administrators, school principals and folks who actually drive the roads to assess current or potential dangers.
Wake is still the nation’s leader in the number of Nationally Board Certified teachers. Recently, 90 WCPSS teachers earned what is widely considered the “gold standard” in teaching – certification from the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards.
The first public joint meeting between the county commission and school board will occur on Monday, January 26, 2015. While the agenda has not been finalized, expect discussion on collaboration and coordination of school and county services for greater effectiveness.
Several municipalities have passed resolutions or begun lobbying campaigns to increase school construction in their areas. There is broad agreement that 40 additional schools are needed but only 16 have been funded.
