Senators Sink Canes, 4-1

Cary, NC – The Canes had made a great run towards the wild card spot in the playoffs with seven wins in eight games coming within three points to cross That Line. A week ago, looking at the schedule seeing they were playing the NY Rangers and Ottawa Senators, I thought, “Hey, with any luck of Buffalo and Pittsburgh losing their games, the Canes could cross That Line, then be in a unique position of staying above the line.”

Little did I predict they would play two of their most lackluster games of the season back to back. First the Rangers thumped the Canes in NY, 6-2. The Ottawa game had everything going for them, including the Canes unbeaten in regulation streak while in their sharp looking black sweaters, but the Senators prevailed, 4-1.

Cary, NC – 2019 could not have started better for the Canes with two wins – Thursday night’s 5-3 win in Philly followed by a complete team win against a strong Columbus Blue Jacket team 4-2 Friday night at the PNC Arena in front of another good crowd. Canes End 2018 With Needed Win

Cary, NC – The Carolina Hurricanes put 2018 in the rear view mirror with a much need win, a 3-1 decision over the Philadelphia Flyers in front of a great crowd New Year’s Eve. The Canes have been in a funk in a big way over the past month, with this just their fourth win in December. Their biggest problem continues to be scoring while the goalkeeping has been excellent. Canes Lose To Red Wings, 4-1

Cary, NC – In pro sports, probably more so in hockey, every game is considered a critical game but on this five-game home stand, all games are critical to win and especially when you’re playing a team that is on a four-game losing streak and, on paper, you should be a better team.

That wasn’t the case last night when the Canes lost to the Detroit Red Wings 4-1. This will also sound odd but goalie Petr Mrazek played a good game and couldn’t be faulted on any goal. As solid as the Canes defense is, both on paper and on the ice, the Wings burnt the Canes every time there was a defense lapse. Read more

Leafs Dominate Canes, 4-1

Cary, NC – Three weeks ago the Canes dominated the Leafs while getting off an unusually high 29 shots in that first period but the Leafs showed why they’re one of the top teams in the NHL as they were clearly the better team on the ice in a 4-1 win at the PNC Arena Tuesday December 11. Read more

Canes Stung by Ducks In 2-1 OT Loss

Cary, NC – Ouch! This loss hurt big time. The previous 24 hours saw a gutsy move by team management – probably Rod Brind’Amour and Don Waddell with possible approval from Tom Dundon – when they put goalie Scott Darling on waivers. To a lesser degree, Valentine Zykov was also put on waivers, who was then picked up by Edmonton.  Read more
