Canes Shock Bolts

Cary, NC – The Carolina Hurricanes opened their home preseason with a resounding 6-1 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning on Wednesday night, September 19, 2018. Prospect Jane Kuokkanen with one goal, two assists, and Captain Justin Williams with three assists, led the way with three points a piece, but this was a total team effort. Read more

Canes Spring Update: Brind’Amour As Coach And More

Cary, NC – Rod Brind’Amour was hired as the next coach of the Carolina Hurricanes by both Tom Dundon and new President and General Manager, Don Waddell. There’s no question Roddy was the best captain and leader the Canes had which is not to say ousted GM Ron Francis wasn’t a great captain – he was a great captain – but Roddy’s leadership by doing more than he asked of anyone, in the locker room, on the ice, with fans or in the workout room was special. Canes Stun Bolts with 3-2 OT Season Ending Win

Cary, NC – The Carolina Hurricanes bookended the season with overtime wins. The first game against Eric Staal and the Minnesota Wild and the last game with a solid 3-2 win against the Tampa Bay Lightning. The Bolts had more on the line as a win would have put them first in the Eastern Conference for home ice throughout the playoffs. Read more

Canes Officially Eliminated From Playoffs After 2-1 Loss to Rangers

Cary, NC – The Carolina Hurricanes had to win out their last five games while hoping the New Jersey Devils lost their last five games. But the loss to the worst team in the NHL in 2018, the New York Rangers, by a 2-1 score put the Canes out of any chance of getting into the post season for the NHL’s “worst” ninth season in a row.   Read more

Rookies Foegele and Zykov Lead Canes Past Senators, 4-1

Cary, NC – The Carolina Hurricanes are making these last two weeks of the season still entertaining to watch with riding a three game winning streak, they’re still mathematically not eliminated from the playoffs. Rookie Warren Foegele, from the same hometown as Jeff Skinner, made his NHL debut and had a great game scoring a goal on his first shot and adding an assist on fellow former Checker, Valentine Zykov’s goal later in the game. Skinner’s Bookend Goals Lift Canes Over Coyotes, 6-5

Cary, NC – Jeff Skinner scored the first goal and the last goal in a wild game against the Arizona Coyotes that saw one of the flukiest goals ever in the NHL.

The Canes were without three key players – Noah Hanifin with a concussion, Brett Pesce and Victor Rask both with season ending shoulder injuries. The Coyotes started the season off on a 0-12 winless streak but have turned things around with one of the best records in the past eight weeks. They’re nowhere near making the playoffs but considering the young talent they have, they’ll be a strong team in a couple of years. Read more

Oilers’ Touchdown Beats Canes’ Field Goal

Cary, NC – Scott Darling may be big enough to play football but when you lose a hockey game giving up a touchdown and extra point, something is wrong.

Stick a fork in the Canes season and forget the math, their season is done and for the most part. The effort on the ice and, on the bench, was pitiful. Any team that is able to hold Connor McDavid to just one second assist and scores three goals has to think they’d be the team coming out on top so despite the fine effort by Jaccob Slavin, Brett Pesce and Jordan Staal containing McDavid, the Canes managed to have another horrible game. Canes Flop In Third Period, Again, Lose To Flyers 4-2

Cary, NC – It was a battle of two teams going through identical records over the past 10 games, 3-6-1, and both headed in the same direction: south in the standings. Only question was which team would dig a little deeper, try a little harder and give their fans a little more hope of making a wild card spot for the playoffs. Read more

Canes No Show in Third Is Beyond Belief

Cary, NC – After a miserable effort against the weakest team in the NHL for 2018 the night before, losing to the NY Rangers 6-3 in NY, the Canes had a 3-1 lead going into the third period against a very strong, rental-filled Boston Bruins team, increasing the lead to 4-1 within the first minute of the period, collapsing like house of cards, yielding five goals to virtually end their season.  Read more
