Cary, NC – After a 2-0 win against the Netherlands on Sunday, July 7, 2019, the United States Women’s National Team (USWNT) is only one of two teams to win the Women’s World Cup twice in a row and scored the most goals of any team in the tournament. And during the tournament, several players for the local North Carolina Courage helped propel the United States to that historic victory.

Raleigh, NC – For two years now, plans have been in the works to move North Carolina FC from their current location at WakeMed Soccer Park to a new major stadium in Downtown Raleigh. Now, there is a new downtown plan, combining the stadium with a large mixed-use area, all contingent upon hospitality tax funding.

Cary to Host 2019 National Women’s Soccer League Championship Match

Cary, NC – Cary is the home of the North Carolina Courage, the only team to win both the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) Championship and NWSL Shield in the same year. Now, the 2018 champions will have the opportunity to reclaim their title at home as Sahlen’s Stadium at WakeMed Soccer Park will host the NWSL Championship this October 2019. Read more

Brind’Amour Defines Season As “Special”

Cary, NC – General Manager Don Waddell and Coach Rod Brind’Amour had a season summary press conference at the PNC Arena on Tuesday, May 21, 2019. Waddell started with a few opening words on how pleased he was with the team and direction then immediately opened it up to questions. Unlike talks after so many previous seasons, both questions and answers were generally positive as this season had so many good things to discuss.

Canes Magical Season Ends

Cary, NC – The Carolina Hurricanes’ season ended with a 4-0 loss to the Boston Bruins as the Bruins swept the Canes in the Eastern Conference Championship. At the end of December the Canes were the 15th out of 16 teams in the east with everyone outside of the greater Raleigh area saying this would be their 10th consecutive season missing the playoffs. Canes Have Back Against The Wall With 2-1 Loss

Cary, NC – Coach Rod Brind’Amour changed every line and also changed the goalie, and while the first period was their best of this series against the Boston Bruins, they couldn’t keep that level of play throughout the game and dropped its first home game of the playoffs with a 2-1 loss. Read more
