Tuesday I joined the entire council and about 200 residents for a public meeting regarding phase II of the downtown park. The consultant’s presentation lasted about 30 to 45 minutes and included information captured from a public workshop held earlier in the year.
If Phase I of the Downtown Cary Park has already become one of the town’s biggest attractions, Phase II may be even more transformative. People in Cary got their first look at what the rest of the park could look like with rough outlines and are invited to give their input.
I’ve been writing for a very long time. I’ve written two novels and have started on a third one, I write for CaryCitizen and I write devotions to encourage people on my Facebook page. But there is nothing I’ve ever written that has given me the freedom that this article gives me.
As the final weekend before Halloween, there are a ton of Halloween events in Cary including Zombiepalooza, various trick-or-treating, jack-o’-lantern carvings and ghost walks around Cary, as well as Final Friday Art Loop and much, much more.
Monday I attempted to contact all council members since there was a regularly scheduled council meeting on Thursday. I was able to contact all council members but one. Items talked about in my one-on-one discussions included the proposal for hotels on North Harrison and the Bainbridge proposal at Maynard and Chapel Hill Road.
This weekend is very busy in and around Cary, with the Final Friday Cary Art Loop, a variety of short films at the Sick Chick Flicks Film Festival, Morrisville’s East Meets West Festival and two big festivals this weekend in Raleigh and Durham. We’ve got it all here in Weekend Events.
For nine years now, the Rock Your World benefit concert has raised money for causes both local and international. The event has grown each year and this year it will be in Downtown Cary at the Mayton Inn.
Get out of the rain and the heat this weekend with lots of fun events, including two soccer games, concerts all over town and much more.
Wednesday I met briefly with a group working on Bloomberg Opioid pilot program. Visiting were coaches from Bloomberg Philanthropies and the Dean of Public Health from John Hopkins with two associates. This was a working meeting to help with the next grant application from Bloomberg.
In addition to the $100,000 we received for our pilot program of opioid wastewater sampling with BioBot Analytics, we could receive a grant of $1 million or the major grant of $5 million. I spoke to the group briefly about the importance of this project to Cary, how it allows us to be proactive rather than reactive, and how it can be used all across the nation.
Cotton House Craft Brewers is opening this year along Academy Street in Downtown Cary, with a focus both on Cary’s past while also looking to the future with beer made from new, experimental hops.
