Bob Fennel’s 2017 Canes Summer Update

While many called this year’s draft “weak,” any draft compared to the last two will be considered weak as those draft years were simply amazing. Make no mistake, the rookies here this week are a talented group. Their skating ability is superb and some have stick handling ability certainly on the NHL level.

Canes Lay Goose Egg Against Stars, End Point Streak

The Carolina Hurricanes ended their franchise record game point streak losing to the Dallas Stars 3-0, in a heart breaker of a game in front of a very good and supportive crowd. Kari Lehtonen earned every bit of the shut out but until the third period, he wasn’t challenged as much as he should have been as the Canes were flat and didn’t have that desperation that was evident late in the game.

Canes Point Streak Now at Lucky 13 With 2-1 OT Win Against Jackets

The Carolina Hurricanes set a franchise record of 13 straight games with garnering a point with an exciting 2-1 win in overtime on a punch-in goal by Noah Hanifin. The Columbus Blue Jackets are vying for both the President’s Trophy, the division and conference championship so this game meant as much to them as it did for the Canes in keeping their playoff hopes alive. The Canes remain four points out of the last Wild Card slot as Boston also won but leap frogged the Islanders who lost to the Flyers.

Canes Point Streak Now at a Dozen Games with 4-1 Win Over Red Wings

The Carolina Hurricanes and the Detroit Red Wings played the back end of a twin bill at the PNC Arena with the Canes controlling the game from start to finish with a solid 4-1 win. It was the first time since their Stanley Cup season the Canes played the same team two nights in a row on home ice and this win extended their point streak to 12 games, also the longest since the 2005-06 season.

Canes Continue Point Streak Despite 4-3 OT Loss to Detroit

The Carolina Hurricanes extended their point streak to 11 games with that mysterious extra point in the overtime loss to the Detroit Red Wings 4-3, moving them to within four points of the Wild Card spot in the playoffs. The Canes continue to cheat the odds and pundits of where they would be this season, especially after being sellers at the trade deadline.
