My last meeting Monday was with several town staff, Mayor Pro-Tem Bush, council member Frantz, and developers interested in building next to the Baptist Church on Academy Street. The negotiations for this project have been ongoing for almost a decade. The purpose of this meeting was to talk about what council members had heard from the Baptist Church committee members.
Tuesday I attended a public meeting for the Carpenter Fire Station Road widening. There were lots of staff on hand and numerous displays of the widening and future parks in the area. According to staff the attendance was steady but light.
It saddens me to know that our country and state is so divided. In Cary we have proven that party doesn’t matter. We believe that working toward a common goal is easier when all work together and there is no place for divisiveness. It is always OK to disagree but we must always work together on each and every decision. That is the only way we can possibly reach our potential as a community. So far, at the end of my 11th year as mayor, I am proud to say we are doing exactly that. Now if we can only get that message across to our state and federal representative.
Monday night I attended a meeting of staff, developers, and citizens on the gas station proposed at Kildaire Farm Road and Penny Road. I stayed in the back so that I could hear the conversation and watch the interaction between the citizens, the developers, and staff.
This week’s main focus was on the quarterly meeting.
Monday I met with the town manager for our weekly one-on-one. We discussed the quarterly meeting, some budget items, and business proposals that may or may not come to fruition. Our meeting lasted about half an hour.
This week consisted mostly of meetings.
Monday I facilitated two meetings at Apex town hall. The first meeting was the Cary Apex Water Treatment Advisory Committee which makes decisions on our water treatment. Cary and Apex are the only two voting members. At this meeting we heard about the water treatment expansion to 56 mgd (million gallons a day) which will go online soon. Currently our maximum demand on peak days is around 40 mgd. Per capita usage has been going down for years and has now leveled off.
This was a busy week for me.
