Panther’s Beat: Football Weekend in “Carolina”, Panthers Get Ambushed in Second Half

Story by Matt Young.

Cary-lina, NC – My son-in-law is a long-suffering Clemson fan (what fan isn’t “long-suffering”?). It’s birthday time for him and the Tigers were playing the Wolfpack. So we packed up a van with a grill, various pork products, salty snacks, cold beverages from Milwaukee and a handful of grown boys. We headed to the outskirts of Cary (is that really Raleigh?) at a ridiculously early hour for a game starting at 3:30 pm to “tailgate”. Read more

Panthers Beat: Titans Destroy Panthers 30-3

Story by Matt Young and photos by Tom Mousseau for CaryCitizen.

Cary-lina, NC – The bye last week gave Panthers fans time to build up their hopes only to be disappointed as the Tennessee Titans crushed them 30-3. Indeed this was an opportunity for the Panthers, since the Titans had been struggling of late. Even Vegas had the Panthers as favorites in this game. Read more

Panthers Beat: An American in Bangalore

Story by Matt Young. Photo by Ed Yourdon.

Cary-lina, NC – As you know, the Panthers had a bye this weekend. I still need to watch football on Sundays though. I am writing this from a hotel room in the wee hours of the morning while watching football on my laptop from Bangalore.  Bangalore. In India. Read more

Panthers Beat: OHHH – lind – OHHH!

Story by Matt Young and photo by Tom Mousseau for CaryCitizen.

Cary-lina, NC – The Panthers let this one slip away from them.

Sunday’s contest was taken down to the final seconds only to have Olindo Mare miss a “sure thing” 31 yard field goal that would have sent the game into overtime with 29 ticks left.

The Panthers came up just short (again!) 24-21 to the Vikes. Read more

Pictures: Panthers vs Redskins

Cary, NC – Photographer Tom Mousseau was on the sidelines for CaryCitizen at Sunday’s NFL contest between the Carolina Panthers and the Washington Redskins. As reported Sunday night in Matt Young’s column, the Panthers rolled over the ‘Skins 33-20 at home. Tom filed these pictures from the game. Read more

Panthers Beat: Weather Or Not I’m Watching Football

Cary-lina, NC – This was the most beautiful weekend all year. Possibly in history. Anywhere.

Feeling guilty about the impending spectacular Sunday, knowing that I would be parked on my couch, I jammed a whole nature-packed weekend into my Saturday. If nothing else, but to avoid getting rickets. Read more

Panther’s Beat: Carolina – The Best 1-4 Team I’ve Ever Seen

Story by Matt Young. Photos by Suzie Wolf. Mark Ratcliff also contributed to this story.

Cary-lina,  NC – I’m a day late in posting the report on the game versus the Saints. “Why?”, you may ask.

I just got home from an out-of-town trip for a wedding.  A WEDDING. ON SUNDAY! At 2 pm! IN THE FALL!

Who are these people that think this makes sense?

Thank goodness for DVRs and smartphones. Read more

Panthers Beat: Chicago Bear-ly Wins

Story by Matt Young. File photo by Suzie Wolf.

Cary-lina, NC – The 1-3 Panthers played well this week but came up short 29 – 34 to the Chicago Bears, who are not exactly the Monsters of the Midway anymore. But let’s not forget that the Bears were in the NFC Championship just a little over 9 months ago. And one of the other two losses Carolina has been handed was to last year’s Super Bowl winners.

No, the schedule gods have not been fair to the Panthers. Before the bye, they still will have to play the Saints, the Falcons, the Redskins and the Vikings. A brutal schedule. Yet they’ve been “in” every game right to the end. Read more

Panthers Beat: The Monsoon Bowl, and Win Number One

Story by Matt Young. Photos by Suzie Wolf.

Cary, NC – It was just another week of surprises in the NFL. What do they say? “…on any given Sunday…”?

The mighty Pats lost to the lowly (and now 3-0) Bills, the Giants broke their losing streak to the so-called “Dream Team” Eagles, and the Lions broke a 13-game losing streak to the Vikes.

Most importantly, the Panthers posted a “W” with a sloppy 16-10 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars. Read more
