Cary, NC – This week was a typical third week of the month with a mayors meeting and a meeting of CAMPO (Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization).
Monday I met with the town manager to discuss a downtown business development. The project has been in the works a long time and we talked about how I could help. That discussion lasted about fifteen minutes even though we talked about an hour. Read more
Cary, NC – This week Cary was impacted by Hurricane Michael while hosting two of our biggest events of the year, the SAS Championships and Diwali. Read more
Cary, NC – This week was a little slower than is typical for this time of year.
I started Monday by giving remarks at the SAS Championships Media day breakfast. The SAS Championship has had a significant economic impact on our community since 2001 with over $140 million in economic benefit. In addition, this event puts Cary and the Triangle on a global stage through live coverage on the Golf Channel. Coverage of the SAS Championships will be in more than 200 million homes in 84 countries and 11 languages across the world. We are excited about this tournament and looking forward to it and all the activities that go along with it. Read more
Cary, NC – This week was a more normal week for me.
Monday I attempted to contact all council members since there was a regularly scheduled council meeting on Thursday. I was able to contact all council members but one. Items talked about in my one-on-one discussions included the proposal for hotels on North Harrison and the Bainbridge proposal at Maynard and Chapel Hill Road. Read more
Cary, NC – This week was also impacted by Hurricane Florence.
Monday my scheduled agenda review for the CAMPO (Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization) executive board was cancelled. In addition, the monthly meeting of the Wake County Mayors Association was cancelled even though there was very little damage in Wake County. My weekly meeting with the town manager was very brief and was held via phone. We talked about the storm damage (or lack thereof) and the pro tennis tournament held the previous week.
Tuesday the annual event for the advisory boards, commissions, and committees was cancelled. In addition, my Bollywood dance practice was cancelled. Read more

Monday started with calls to council members to hear of questions or concerns about the scheduled council meeting on Thursday. When I talked with staff later in the day we agreed that the Hurricane would be having an impact on Cary Thursday evening so we decided it was best to cancel the meeting. Read more
Cary, NC – This was a holiday week with Labor Day being celebrated on Monday.
Tuesday I joined Mayor Pro-Tem Bush along with several choreographers in our first group dance lesson for Diwali. Hopefully it won’t take as long to learn those steps as it did to learn steps for my individual dance. Read more
Wake County, NC – Thoughts for September 2018 from Bill Fletcher, Member of the Wake County Board of Education.
As the balance of 162,000 students began classes, district staff released the draft plan to open four new schools in 2019 and assign students to schools with available seats…all in an effort to reduce over-crowding, comply with the state-mandated class size reduction, align k-8 calendars and possibly remove enrollment caps from some schools.
Public information sessions are being held now. Draft 2 of the plan will be released September 18. Public comment is welcomed at the district website. Read more
Cary, NC – This week was much slower than anticipated due to a few cancellations.
Monday I met with a scout working on a citizenship in the community badge. He was accompanied by his mother (we require all minors to be accompanied by an adult). He asked several questions including: Why I wanted to be mayor? What are some of the town’s biggest issues? Our interview finished after about 35 minutes. Then I gave him a quick tour around town hall and the council chambers. Read more

Monday I contacted all council members to hear of any questions or concerns about Thursday’s regularly scheduled council meeting. Most of the comments were about the discussion item on the proposed hotels on North Harrison.
