Cary, NC – This was a holiday week with Labor Day being celebrated on Monday.
Tuesday I joined Mayor Pro-Tem Bush along with several choreographers in our first group dance lesson for Diwali. Hopefully it won’t take as long to learn those steps as it did to learn steps for my individual dance. Read more
Cary, NC – This week was much slower than anticipated due to a few cancellations.
Monday I met with a scout working on a citizenship in the community badge. He was accompanied by his mother (we require all minors to be accompanied by an adult). He asked several questions including: Why I wanted to be mayor? What are some of the town’s biggest issues? Our interview finished after about 35 minutes. Then I gave him a quick tour around town hall and the council chambers. Read more
Cary, NC – This was a busy week for me with a council meeting and Lazy Daze.
Monday I contacted all council members to hear of any questions or concerns about Thursday’s regularly scheduled council meeting. Most of the comments were about the discussion item on the proposed hotels on North Harrison. Council member Robinson informed me that she would be out of town on business at the time of the council meeting. Read more

Cary, NC – This week was probably one of the last weeks I will have with open evenings. My calendar should be filling up quickly from now until the rest of the year.
Tuesday I practiced my Bollywood dance. This dance will be held on October 13th. At that time I will dance with my partner for about 1 minute and then we will join 3 others and their partners for a group dance. Those include Mayor Pro-Tem Lori Bush, North Carolina Representative Gale Adcock, and Morrisville Mayor T.J. Cawley. I now know all the steps in my dance but will need to be able to do it without mistakes. Practice on the group dance will begin in September. Read more
Cary, NC – There were no regularly scheduled council meetings this week so my duties were lighter than normal.
Monday I met with the town manager for our weekly one-on-one. Our topics of discussion included the proposal for hotels on North Harrison and several other items. The North Harrison hotels proposal was tabled at the last council meeting so that staff could meet with the adjacent landowner about an easement to the Arboretum. Without the easement guests at the hotels would be forced to make a U-turn on Harrison Avenue. Council will be voting on this proposal at the August 9th meeting. Read more

Cary, NC – This week’s primary activity was the Cary Chamber Planning conference in Pinehurst.
The week started on Tuesday with an inquiry from a Triangle Business Journal reporter. They wanted to know about economic development investments in Cary.
Wednesday I met briefly with a group working on Bloomberg Opioid pilot program. Visiting were coaches from Bloomberg Philanthropies and the Dean of Public Health from John Hopkins with two associates. This was a working meeting to help with the next grant application from Bloomberg. Read more
Cary, NC – This week’s entry will be short since there wasn’t much going on.
Monday started with my one-on-one with the town manager. We talked about a downtown business, the paid speakers at the public hearing at our last council meeting, the future downtown park, and a business near the mall site. Our conversation was very brief.
Monday afternoon I participated in a business contest at a dentist office. This is a contest with local dental-related practices hosted by Nu Image Surgical and Dental Implants. The contest involves participating staffs taking a creative photos using a Nu Image towel. I joined the staff at the office of TMJ & Sleep Therapy Center for a photo. Hopefully the image the staff with the towel and me holding ribbon cutting scissors will help them win the contest. Read more
Cary, NC – This week was a holiday week so there were very few activities.
Monday I met with the town manager for my weekly one-on-one. We talked about several topics including a downtown business and an incident at the last council meeting where someone allegedly paid speakers to advocate for their project.
After talking with the town manager and others here is my understanding incident of the paid speakers. On the evening of the last council meeting someone posted on Craig’s list that they would pay $50 for speakers. During the council meeting this information was being passed around amongst council members but I was not informed.
There were three public hearings but only one had speakers. One can only speculate that the paid speakers were for the public hearing with speakers. That public hearing was a proposal for a hotel with twice the allowed height, no sidewalks, and reduction in streetscape and buffers. (The applicant and the applicant’s representative later both denied anything to do with paying speakers and said it was someone trying to sabotage the proposal.) I was made aware of the incident after the meeting. Read more
